Most Skoda Octavia Mk3 cars on 16 or 17 inch wheels run 2.2 bar (32 psi) front and rear, measured cold, with one or two people in the car. Load it up for a trip and the rear goes up to 3.2 bar. The vRS on 18 inch wheels runs 2.4 bar all round. If you’re looking for the correct Skoda Octavia tyre pressure, your exact figures are on the tyre pressure label on the car. The figures below are the label values for the common sizes, checked against Mk3 owners’ label readings; where a figure could not be confirmed, the cell says so. They cover the whole generation (2013 to 2020, body code 5E, hatch and estate).
Skoda Octavia Tyre Pressure Chart by Tyre Size
Pressures are for cold tyres. “Normal” is the label’s partial-load column: up to three people, little luggage. “Full load” is the label’s full-load column: four or five people with luggage, or towing. Front first, then rear.
| Tyre size | Normal (front / rear) | Full load (front / rear) |
|---|---|---|
| 195/65 R15 | 2.2 / 2.2 bar (32 / 32 psi) | See your label |
| 205/55 R16 | 2.2 / 2.2 bar (32 / 32 psi) | See your label |
| 225/45 R17 | 2.2 / 2.2 bar (32 / 32 psi) | 2.5 / 3.2 bar (36 / 46 psi) |
| 225/40 R18 (vRS) | 2.4 / 2.4 bar (35 / 35 psi) | See your label |
| 225/35 R19 (vRS) | 2.7 / 2.7 bar (39 / 39 psi) | See your label |
Owners’ label readings for the 17 inch size give 2.5 bar front and 3.2 bar rear at full load, for five people and three cases. Some Mk3 labels also show an ECO column, 2.5 bar on the 16 inch size: higher pressure for economy, at the cost of ride comfort. It is optional. The partial-load column is the normal setting.
Some engines carry a slightly different front figure on the 16 inch size (2.1 bar instead of 2.2). If your label says 2.1, the label wins. A 0.1 bar difference is inside the error of most forecourt gauges anyway.
Skoda Octavia Estate Tyre Pressure
The estate uses the same figures as the hatch for the same tyre size at normal load. The full-load column is where it can differ: the estate carries more weight over the rear axle, so check the full-load rear figure on your own label before a loaded trip.
Skoda Octavia vRS Tyre Pressure
The vRS runs higher than the rest of the range: 2.4 bar (35 psi) all round on 225/40 R18. On the 19 inch 225/35 tyre the normal figure is 2.7 bar (39 psi). Full-load figures for both sizes are on the label inside the fuel flap.
Which Tyre Size Is on Your Octavia
Read it off the sidewall: the size is printed as width/profile R rim, for example 205/55 R16. The sizes usually fitted:
- 195/65 R15: base models, mostly 1.2 TSI and 1.6 TDI.
- 205/55 R16: SE, the most common size, 1.0 TSI, 1.4 TSI, 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI.
- 225/45 R17: SE L and Laurin & Klement, 1.4 TSI, 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TDI.
- 225/40 R18: vRS, 2.0 TSI and 2.0 TDI.
- 225/35 R19: vRS 230 and 245, and the 19 inch option on later vRS.
Aftermarket wheels change the size, not the rule: use the row for the size you have fitted, not the size the car left the factory with.
Where Is the Tyre Pressure Label on a Skoda Octavia
The label is inside the fuel filler flap. It shows a small table: tyre sizes down the side, a partial-load column and a full-load column, each with a front and a rear figure in bar and psi. The icons at the top of each column show the number of people and whether there is luggage.
If the label is missing or unreadable, do not use another car’s figures. The table above is the next best thing, then a Skoda dealer with your registration.
How to Reset the Tyre Pressure Warning on a Skoda Octavia Mk3
The Mk3 uses an indirect system: it has no pressure sensors in the wheels. It watches the ABS wheel-speed signals and warns when one wheel starts turning faster than the others, which is what a soft tyre does. So the “reset” is really telling the car that the current pressures are the correct ones.
- Inflate all four tyres to the label figures, cold.
- Switch on the ignition and the infotainment screen.
- Press the CAR button, then Vehicle status on older units or Tyres on later ones, then Tyre Pressure Loss Indicator, and press SET (store).
- Confirm. The warning clears and the system learns the new baseline over the next few miles.
Store the values again every time you change the pressures, swap wheels or fit new tyres. If the light comes straight back, you have a tyre losing air or one tyre set well away from the others, and the system is doing its job. The tyre pressure warning light guide covers what the light means on each VW Group system and why it sometimes comes on with no puncture.
Four Things the Tyre Pressure Label Does Not Tell You
Check cold. Driving warms the air in the tyre and adds 0.2 to 0.3 bar. Check before you set off, or after the car has stood for two hours. If you must check warm, add 0.2 bar to the label figure and recheck cold later.
Full load means full. Four adults and a boot of luggage, or a trailer. For two people and a weekend bag, stay on the normal column. Running the full-load figures unloaded wears the centre of the tread and makes the ride harsh.
Winter tyres. Skoda’s handbooks for earlier Octavias add 0.2 bar for winter tyres. Check your Mk3 label, which may list winter sizes separately.
The spare. Where a spare is fitted, inflate it to the highest pressure printed on the label or on the tyre itself, then let it down to the road-wheel figure once it is on the car. A spare that has sat for five years is usually flat; check it twice a year.
I check my own Skoda Rapid with the go Mechanic digital inflator. You clip it onto the valve, it reads the pressure in the tyre, and it fills to the figure you set. I set 35 psi. It takes two minutes a wheel and I do it monthly and before any long drive.
That is the figure on the Rapid’s own label, not the Octavia’s, which is the point: the car’s label sets the number, not a habit.
FAQs
On the Mk3 with 16 or 17 inch wheels, 2.2 bar (32 psi) front and rear for normal driving. Larger wheels and full load are higher; see the chart.
Yes for the common 16 and 17 inch sizes at normal load. It is not right for the vRS on 18s (35 psi) or for a fully loaded car (44 psi at the rear).
The same figures as the hatch for the same tyre size at normal load. Check the full-load column on your own label, because the estate’s loaded rear figure can be higher.
Because the Mk3 has to be told the new pressures are correct. Store them in Vehicle status > Tyre Pressure Loss Indicator. If it returns within a day, one tyre is losing air.
